Peter Erb
New Orleans native Peter Erb became Principal Horn of the Arizona Opera Orchestra in September 2008. He currently maintains a busy freelancing schedule in Arizona and New Mexico, including performances with the Phoenix Symphony, New Mexico Symphony Orchestra, and Santa Fe Symphony.
Peter also teaches Horn at Eastern New Mexico University. During the 2008-2009 season, he performed as Second Horn in the New Mexico Symphony Orchestra. Peter has also performed as a soloist with the Sonoran Desert Chorale, and on Albuquerque’s acclaimed Church of Beethoven recital series (www.churchofbeethoven.org).
Before moving west, Peter was Co-Principal Horn with the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra during the 2006-2007 season, joining his parents Richard (Bass Trombone), and Helen (English Horn), both members of the LPO and its predecessor, the New Orleans Symphony for more than 40 seasons. He has also performed with the Cleveland Chamber Symphony, American Wind Symphony Orchestra, Banff Festival Orchestra, Kalamazoo Symphony, Northwest Indiana Symphony, and the Chicagoland Pops Orchestra.
As a member of the Chicago Civic Orchestra from 2004 through 2006, Peter played in Orchestra Hall under the batons of Charles Dutoit, Lorin Maazel, and Robert Spano.
Peter earned his Bachelor’s degree at Northwestern University, where he studied with Gail Williams and Bill Barnewitz, and his Master’s at The University of Akron with Bill Hoyt. He has also studied with Dale Clevenger at Marrowstone Music Festival, and with Martin Hackleman at the Banff Music Centre.
Peter has been a Union member since 1997, joining the American Federation of Musicians Local 174-496 (New Orleans) while still in high school. He presently lives in Albuquerque with his wife, Emily, a clarinetist
under Music & Musicians.
